Solar Cell Production Jumps 50 Percent in 2007
Environmental News Network reports that 2007 was a record year for solar power, as production of photovoltaics (PV) reached 3,800 megawatts worldwide, 50 percent more than 2006.
The top five PV-producing countries are Japan, China, Germany, Taiwan and the United States. In the U.S., there was an 83 percent growth in installations of PV units, likely due to a $2,000 tax credit offered under the Energy Policy Act of 2005 to offset the costs of the system.
