DEQ Encourages Oklahomans to Recycle Oil
The Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is encouraging residents to recycle any oil that was used to power generators during the state’s recent ice storm.
Generator manufacturers suggest that the oil be changed after 30 to 40 hours of use, and by recycling oil when it is changed new oil can be produced.
At the same time if this oil is dumped in the trash or down a storm drain, it can contaminate waterways. One gallon of motor oil can contaminate one million gallons of water.
To find out where to recycle used motor oil from generators as well as cars and other vehicles, use the recycling locator search at the top of this page. For more of the impacts used motor oil has on the environment, visit Earth 911′s Automotive page.
