Lower Tolls for Green Cars

Environmental Leader features good news for New England hybrid owners as vehicles with over 45 miles per gallon (MPG) fuel economy will receive discounts when tolls increase for New York City bridges and tunnels in March.

The discount will apply to existing E-Z Pass customers who apply for a green tag, of which over 1,200 have already been issued. Currently, the only car models that meet the MPG standard are the Toyota Prius, Honda Civic Hybrid and Honda Insight.

New York’s state toll road system has already provided discounts for “green cars,” and New Jersey’s toll road system is considering a similar plan.
