TVs Must Meet New Requirements to Earn Energy Star

EPA has announced a revised Energy Star specification for televisions that will take effect on Nov. 1, 2008 and require Energy Star-certified TVs to be 30 percent more efficient than conventional models.
The anticipated savings in energy costs will be almost $1 billion annually with a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to that of one million cars.
It is expected that 2008 will see over 36 million TV sets shipped for sale in the U.S., which already has more than 275 million TVs in use. As TVs grow larger, provide more features and are used more during the day, they will use more energy.
