JC Penny Launches Green Product Line

Starting this month, consumers can purchase organic, recycled and renewable merchandise at JC Penny stores that will be branded “Simply Green.”

This merchandise will include everything from clothing to home accessories. The different categories:

  • Organic—Made from at least 70 percent raw materials such as organic cotton or linen that have been grown without chemical fertilizers or pesticides
  • Renewable—Made from at least 25 percent renewable materials that come from certified, well-managed forests, such as bamboo, soy or wood
  • Recycled—Must contain at least 25 percent soda bottles

JC Penny teamed with environmental lifestyle professional Danny Seo on the new line of products. The company also reports that it recycled more than 95,000 tons of cardboard and 13,500 tons of plastic in 2007.
