Massachusetts Third-Graders Recycle Plastic Bottle Caps With Aveda

Four classes of enthusiastic third-graders at Kennedy Elementary in Holbrook, Mass. are supporting Aveda’s Re-Cap program by collecting hard plastic bottle caps, according to Wicked Local.

The classes began gathering in late April and have already brought in about 500 caps from various products, including laundry detergent, soda and shampoo.

According to the article, Aveda selected bottle caps as their recycling target because “much of the country does not have an operable system in place to recycle them, so bottle caps often become trash and are mistaken for food by birds and marine creatures, sometimes with tragic results.”

The caps will be recycled and reused as toppers for Aveda products.
