Plastic Bag Recycling Bill Introduced in North Carolina
Large drug stores and retailers in North Carolina will have to provide recycling bins for plastic bags if a new bill introduced by Rep. Pricey Harrison is passed, according to the News Record.
The bill would apply to any retailer in the state with more than 10,000 square feet of total space, whether that be just one store or divided among several stores.
According to the article, Harrison expressed her prime reasoning behind the bill as the plastic bag littering problem, the bags taking up space in landfills and the use of oil to manufacture them.
The measure was approved by the General Assembly’s Environmental Review Commission on May 19 and now awaits passage by the full House and the Senate.
