“Recycle More Minnesota” Campaign Begins

At 41 percent, Minnesota already boasts the second highest recycling rate in the country, but has set a new goal to reach 50 percent by 2011, according to the Echo Press.

To help attain the goal, the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency and the Recycling Association of Minnesota have launched an educational program encouraging recycling in homes, work places and on-the-go.

According to the article, the state recycling rate has not significantly increased for about 10 years, and about 1.3 million tons of recyclable materials are trashed each year.

Several additional recycling campaigns have also been launched this month, such as Message in a Bottle, which encourages recycling bottles and cans away from home, according to the Recycle More Minnesota Web site.
