ECO2 Plastics Receives $6.5 Million in Funding

The California-based company ECO2 Plastics has just raised $6.5 million in funding from Trident Capital and a group of small investors led by Thompson Hutton reports VentureBeat.

ECO2 Plastics recycles using a unique, patented process. Unlike traditional recycling companies which use billions of gallons of water a year, the company uses none. Rather, a biodegradable solvent and liquid carbon dioxide clean the plastic. And the wash solution can be used over and over again.

The final product is “virtually identical to traditionally recycled plastic, but produced in a more efficient and earth-friendly way,” according to the company site.

Currently, the company recycles only plastics in the future.

The company is increasing in popularity and expects to generate $30 million in gross revenues during the 2008 fiscal year.
