Wineries Are Big on Renewable Energy
California wineries have decided that it’s good product stewardship to use solar energy. The first ones to install solar were Grgich Hills and Foster’s Wine Estates, followed by Elbin Blatz, which installed nearly 1,000 photovoltaic panels mounted on 130 pontoons floating in an irrigation pond, and another 306 panels mounted on a nearby acre of land. These panels can produce up to 477 kilowatts per hour at peak output.
Now Jarvis Winery joins the group, installing a solar powered system that will be producing as much energy as it uses, and give the winery a net zero utility bill. It will take approximately seven years to pay for itself. Real Goods Solar designed, engineered and installed the system.
