Chicago Event Promotes Green Products

The City of Chicago will encourage citizens live a little greener at an Environmental Resource Event to be held this weekend. Not only will the event allow people to drop off tough-to-recycle items, but various free green products and discount coupons will be given away:

  • Free CFLs
  • Free environmentally-friendly gas can (with the trade in of an old can)
  • $100 rebate towards an electric or push mower (with the trade in of a gas-powered mower)
  • Compost bins for $30

Items to be accepted for recycling:

  • Old or unused prescription and non-prescription medications
  • Computers, cell phones, fax machines, scanners, keyboards
  • Hazardous household chemicals and paints
  • Old gas cans and/or gas-powered lawn mowers

The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Northeastern Illinois University (3701 W. Bryn Mawr Ave.)

A similar event will be held September 20. To find recycling locations in your area, use Earth911.
