Tree-Free Paper On The Market

Natural Source Printing, Inc. has created a new line of paper which uses no water in processing, no trees, no chemicals and takes very little energy to produce.

So what is the paper made of? As the name denotes, FiberStone Papers are made of stone- limestone, to be more specific.

Limestone is largely made up of calcium carbonate, which is regularly used as a whitening agent for regular virgin and recycled paper. Recently, researchers have discovered that the calcite can replace the tree based paper altogether.

To the touch, it feels like a regular coated paper. The stone paper material has been used to produce labels, unit cartons, brochures, annual reports and high quality pressure sensitive labels.

NSP lists the benefits of its new paper:

  • No water is used or toxic air emitted in the production process
  • The paper is bleach and acid free
  • Every ton of FiberStone Paper saves 20 trees from being cut down
  • 7,480 gallons water/waste water is saved per ton

While this new paper material becomes main stream, make sure to recycle that well-known wood based paper. Let Earth911 help you find a location to recycle your paper.
