Coke to Recycle at National Conventions

Coca-Cola Recycling LLC hopes to recover 85 percent of all materials used at the Democratic and Republican national conventions, reports the Austin-American Statesman.

Thousands of bins, help from local volunteers and an interactive recycling trailer on display outside the venues will be used to encourage consumers to put their beverage containers in the proper receptacles.

Coke’s goal is to recycle 100 percent of the material that is recovered.

Ironically, the main venue for the Democratic Convention is Denver’s Pepsi Center, where Coca-Cola Recycling will be recovering and recycling emptied bottles of its rival company. But at Invesco Field, where Barack Obama plans to make his acceptance speech, Coke products will be served.

Gary Wygant, vice president of recycling business development for Coca-Cola Recycling, said the company is “pleased to recycle everyone’s beverage containers … even ones that aren’t Coke containers.”
