France Debates Tax on Disposable Items

According to msnbc.com, France is considering a  new "picnic tax" on disposables.  The proposed new taxes are meant to change both consumer and manufacturing habits regarding reusing and recycling. Rhode Island Sets Recycling Goals for Annual Race

The annual CVS Caremark Downtown 5K comes to Providence this weekend, and the city has partnered with Waste Management to provide recycling options for the expected 12,000 attendees. The Providence Department of Public Works is providing 30 recycling bins for drink containers. The city expects to recycle over 15,000 cardboard boxes that will hold T-shirts. New Zealand Announces 62% Glass Recycling Rate

The Glass Packaging Forum of New Zealand announced that New Zealanders recycle more than three out of every five glass containers. Their glass recovery rate increased to 62 percent, up from 53 percent the year prior. The increase in recycling translates into an additional 28,955 tons of glass recovered annually. 250 Million Pounds of Medication Flushed Annually by Medical Groups

The Associated Press is continuing its investigation into pharmaceutical disposal, with the latest finding that 250 million pounds are being flushed each year by hospitals and long-term care facilities.
