Florida Company to Recycle Political Signs

Gulf Stream Plastics (GSP), a Florida-based company, is serving as a dropoff site for political signs through Thanksgiving.  Thus far, an estimated 800 pounds of political signs have been collected and shredded, according to The Walton Sun.

After collection, the signs are shredded at GSP’s facility.  The shredded material will then be sent to a recycling broker in Montgomery, Ala.  There, the material will be sanitized and sold to companies for reuse.

According to Robert Magee, CEO of Hi-Tec Laboratories, which is the parent company to GSP, companies like Hyundai use this recycled material to make dashboards and other parts.

Despite the expense, time and effort to recycle the political signs, Magee said, “we are very concerned about our carbon footprint. We’re very green-minded and environmentally friendly.”
