Waste Recycle Park To Help Clean Up Beaumont, CA

A new $2 million “waste recycle park” will improve efficiency and enhance reuse opportunities at the Lamb Canyon Landfill in Beaumont, Calif., reports the Press Enterprise.

The facility will eventually have four buildings, allowing employees to work indoors. Employees currently disassemble thousands of appliances and electronics out in 100-plus heat in the Riverside County facility. The 30 person crew processed 8,642 appliances and 9,911 televisions and computer monitors last year alone.

The park will also include a reuse exchange store where consumers will be able to purchase items such as television sets and bicycles for less than $10.

Hazardous items previously not accepted, such as paint and chemicals, will be accepted at the completed facility. There are also plans to involve the public by teaching composting classes and giving tours to school children.

The park should be completed by October 2009.
