IKEA Cuts Disposable Bags in U.S.

After reducing plastic bag consumption by 92 percent earlier this year, IKEA announced it is discontinuing all paper and plastic bags from its U.S. stores as of this month, offering only reusable options.

“The success of this program clearly demonstrates that like IKEA, our customers care about our global home,” said Pernille Spiers-Lopez, president of IKEA North America. “They have let us know that they’re looking at ways to be environmentally responsible in their everyday lives.”

Since its “Bag the Bag” campaign began 18 months ago, sales of IKEA reusable blue bags have increased over 100 times.  In addition to this, while plastic bags were distributed for five cents each in IKEA stores, enough money was raised from the sales of these bags to plant over 516,000 trees.

Yeah that’s great. Ikea has found another way of boosting their “bottom line” by making you buy their stupid blue bags at substantial cost. I used to buy alot at Ikea but have since cut way back. For what they charge for stuff, they can give ma a damned bag for my purchases, The blue ones I was forced to buy went in the trash anyway when I got the stuff home.
