Dell, Goodwill “Reconnect” Computer Recycling in VA, D.C.
Reconnect, a free computer recycling program by Dell and Goodwill Industries, is now operating in Virginia and the District of Columbia area. Virginia is the third U.S. state to implement a statewide program through Reconnect.
Through the Reconnect program, consumers can bring any brand of computer equipment, in any condition, for recycling. The program aims to divert over 2.7 million pounds of used computers and computer equipment from landfills over the next year, as well as provide job opportunities for individuals with barriers to employment or independence.
With this most recent addition, Reconnect now offers drop off locations at 567 participating Goodwill locations in:
- Austin
- District of Columbia
- Houston
- New Jersey
- North Carolina
- Northwest Ohio
- Philadelphia
- Pittsburgh
- Rochester
- San Antonio
- San Diego
- San Francisco
- Virginia
- Western New York State
“Dell wants to make computer recycling easy, convenient and free for any consumer, and Reconnect is an important program that helps make that possible,” said Joe Strathmann, head of product recycling services for Dell. “This program is a win on all fronts; it benefits the environment, the community and consumers.”
Dell also provides free recycling to consumers worldwide. In 2007, it collected over 100 million pounds of IT equipment from consumers.
