Virginia Program Sells Two Million CFLs in First Year
Dominion Virginia Power has partnered with the Home Depot and Honeywell since October 2007 to offer energy-efficient compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) at discounted rates, and the program passed two million sales this week.
Dominion discounted the bulbs by $1.50 for single orders and $3 for multi-packs for bulbs sold at The Home Depot stores in its Virginia service area. Although the bulbs cost more than incandescents, they are up to 75 percent more energy-efficient and can last up to 10 times longer.
Dominion anticipates the program’s growth to continue in the Northern, Central and Eastern Virginia areas. As of Oct. 13, the program has encouraged the sale of 2,033,000 CFLs.
One of the cautions for anyone looking to purchase CFLs is that they contain traces of CFL recycling location no matter what state you live in using Earth911.
