Dunkin’ Donuts Opens First LEED-Certified Store
Dunkin’ Donuts recently opened its first green, LEED-certified store in St. Petersburg, Fla. The opening of the store was also celebrated by the planting of a tree by Will Kussell, president and chief brand officer of Dunkin’ Donuts, and Rick Baker, mayor of St. Petersburg.
“With the opening of our first LEED-certified store in St. Petersburg, we look forward not only to playing an important role in the daily lives of the people who live and work here, but also applying what we learn in this store to Dunkin’ Donuts overall, as we continue to evolve the brand,” said Kussell.
Some of the green enhancements at the new store include:
- On-site recycling through an earthworm casting facility. The solar powered tank holds 80 pounds of earthworms that will eat the waste produced by the store, such as coffee grounds and paper products.
- A reusable mug program which encourages customers to receive a discount towards the purchase of a beverage by bringing their own mug.
- Energy-efficient concrete foam walls and lighting
- Donating leftover baked goods to a local food bank
The opening of the store is part of Dunkin’ Brands’ commiment to its CSR platform, which covers four main pillars: Philanthropic, Social, Economic and Environmental.
