Mohawk Group Unveils LEED-Certified Showroom
The Mohawk Group recently announced that its Chicago showroom achieved gold-level LEED certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. The new showroom aligns with the company’s commitment to environmental solutions through initiatives such as recycled materials, daylight harvesting and use of locally manufactured products.
Some of the new green features of the showroom include:
- 99 percent of demolition, construction and packaging debris diverted from landfills
- More than 85 percent of wood for construction and furniture sourced from Forest Stewardship Council certified forests
- 59 percent of products and furniture manufactured within a 500-mile radius of the showroom
- All paint and adhesives low- or zero-VOC
“The Mohawk Group is a firm believer in the importance of environmental responsibility – for its products, processes and now its showroom,” said Ken Wilson, designer of the new Mohawk showroom.
Along with its new showroom, another of Mohawk’s green initiatives is its first-of-its-kind Greenworks recycling center, where nylon 6 waste material and all major types of synthetic carpet fiber (Nylon 6, Nylon 6.6 and Polypropylene) are recycled. This accounts for approximately 90 percent of the national post-consumer carpet waste stream, with a 90 percent recovery rate of all materials that enter the center.
