Greenschools Brings Awareness and Education to Mass. Communities

Greenschools is a non-profit organization focused on creating greener and healthier learning environments through education and awareness. Founded by Robin Organ, a teacher with nearly a decade of experience, greenschools hopes to take the first step to educate students, parents, teachers, administrators and communities about issues such as indoor air quality, recycling, nutrition and global warming.

On Nov. 22, greenschools will host a Greenschools Community Fair and Green Youth Summit.  “We would welcome Ambassadors from across the country and are looking to collaborate with student groups for projects and our Student Newsletter,” said Organ. The events will feature a tour of a LEED-certified green school, discussions over numerous green issues and a green fashion show.

Greenschools supports the idea that students, teachers, school staff and the planet are not as healthy as they could be. Quoting a statistic from the World Health Organization, the organization says that the environment significantly affects 80 percent of all major diseases, such as cancer, diabetes and asthma.

Greenschools has helped over 30 Massachusetts schools and school systems learn about eliminating the use of toxic chemicals, instituting recycling programs and increasing reducing and reusing practices.
