Panasonic Launches Nationwide Electronics Recycling Program

Panasonic Corporation of North America will officially launch a nationwide Panasonic branded TV and consumer electronics recycling program on Nov. 1. Initially launching in 160 locations in ten states, the program will expand to every state within three years.

Managed by Electronic Manufacturers Recycling Management Company, LLC (MRM), a joint venture established by Panasonic, Sharp and Toshiba, Panasonic’s products will be recycled free of charge in an environmentally safe fashion.

“The Panasonic program will help to move end-of-life consumer electronics out of the common waste stream and into a separate and environmentally responsible recycling stream,” said Richard Vernam, Panasonic’s recycling group manager.

Panasonic has worked over the last two years to test various product recycling mechanisms in several states and localities, through voluntary recycling events and with a number of established recyclers. As part of Panasonic’s Eco Ideas program, the company has pledged to introduce products which are easier to recycle and more energy efficient.
