ReCORK Partners With Whole Foods to Recycle Wine Corks

ReCORK America recently announced a partnership with Whole Foods to run a pilot wine cork recycling program in 25 Whole Foods locations in northern California and Reno. The program will run for six months, with collection boxes located in the wine section of each store.

Worldwide, over 13 billion natural cork wine stoppers are sold each year. Natural cork, a biodegradable and sustainable resource, can be recycled in products such as:

  • Flooring tile
  • Building insulation
  • Shoe soles
  • Fishing rod handles
  • Bulletin boards
  • Soil conditioners

Although a small, unassuming wine cork may seem insignificant in the big picture of waste disposal, reusing these small stoppers prevents the need to further harvest virgin materials and utilizes a readily available resource.

ReCORK America is a recycling program sponsored by Amorim, the largest producer of natural cork wine closures worldwide, as well as Portocork America and Amorim Cork America.
