Considering Nike ‘Considered’
Nike recently unveiled the expansion of it’s Considered Design into all six of the company’s core categories:
- Basketball
- Running
- Soccer (Football)
- Women’s Training
- Men’s Training & Sportswear
- Tennis & All Condition Gear
Nike Considered Design aims to create sustainable products which minimize environmental impact through waste reduction, the use of “environmentally preferred materials” and the elimination of toxins.
“We are designing for the sustainable economy of tomorrow, and for us that means fewer resources, more sustainable materials and renew able energy to produce new products,” said Mark Parker, president and CEO.
The Nike Considered program aims to:
- Have 100 percent of Nike footwear meet baseline Considered standards by 2011
- Have all apparel meet baseline Considered standards by 2015
- Have all equipment meet baseline Considered standards by 2020
- Design fully closed loop products that are easily recycled into new product or safely returned to nature
These goals would reduce waste in the Nike supply chain by 17 percent and conversely increase the company’s consumption of eco-friendly materials by 20 percent. Although the Considered Design brand has been available to the public for several years, this is the first time the Considered line has been launched into the full scope of Nike footwear.
