NBA’s Rockets Want Fans to ‘Get Red, Go Green’

The Houston Rockets are offering recycling at every home game for their fans.

While several sports teams have implemented in-stadium recycling bins for drink containers and paper, the Houston Rockets have decided to spotlight more difficult to recycle items and provide a collection table at home games as part of the team’s Get Red and Go Green initiative.

For December, the product is cellular phones. Anyone who brings an old phone to the Go Green table at the Toyota Center will receive 10 percent off at the Team Shop. The phones will be donated to charity for reuse.

The Rockets have not released a schedule of other products to be collected, but it will change every month. The City of Houston has been making strides this year to improve its low recycling rate, blamed partially on the lack of opportunities for residents to recycle.
