Global Day of Action Takes Poznań by Storm
What do penguins, clowns and polar bears have in common? They were all part of the Global Day of Action demonstration in Poznań on Saturday.
Global Youth Action Day occurred the same day. “The narrow cobbled streets of Poznań were filled with hundreds of youth from around the world on Saturday, demanding climate justice, and urging their country representatives to get serious about climate change,” reported Jasmeet Sidhu is one of the 25 members of the Canadian Youth Delegation to Poznań.
“The scene was colorful under the grey Poland skies, as youth carried banners in several different languages, sang, danced and united in the cause to see their future uncompromised,” said Sidhu.
The festivities weren’t limited to Poland. People around the world showed their support for decisive action to limit the effects of climate change.
Creativity was the name of the game on Saturday. A group of people dressed in swimming gear in Amsterdam, banner messages appeared on Aztec pyramids in Mexico and giant postcards reading “Dear World Leaders, we are ready to save the climate” in cities like Boston, Chicago, New York and San Francisco.
“Saturday’s actions clearly show that people across the world recognize that it’s time for governments to get serious about climate action,” said Mareike Britten, a Greenpeace climate and energy campaigner.
