Keep America Beautiful Goes Curbside

Keep America Beautiful (KAB) and the Curbside Value Partnership (CVP) have teamed up to increase participation in curbside recycling programs starting in 2009.

The CVP will offer resources to KAB’s 587 affiliates, such as recycling education and how to measure recycling efforts. As part of the partnership, KAB will assume operational, fundraising and development responsibilities for the CVP program beginning in January.

The CVP says that communities which use its resources see a 22 percent average increase in recycling by volume and a 20 percent increase in participation.

Because one in three KAB affiliates also serve as their communities’ recycling coordinators, both groups feel that the information will be well-received.

This is one of many initiatives KAB hosts to increase awareness about recycling, litter prevention and waste reduction. Through its Great American Cleanup™ program, KAB diverted 86 million pounds of litter from landfills in 2008.
