New Ornament Makes Treecycling a Breeze

Hey Mom, look we what we made! We used a hole punch & wove ribbon around the ornament, a little puffy paint, and presto!Love Christmas trees? Love recycling? Combined, they make sweet, sweet “treecycling,” a cool concept that puts your Christmas tree to new use once the needles turn brown. Plus, everyone (ok, 93 percent of people who purchase live Christmas trees) is doing it. You don’t want to be left out, do you?

Earth911.com’s new treecycling ornament is easy to use, fun to make and looks quite spiffy on your tree (if we do say so ourselves). It even comes with a checklist on the back to make sure you don’t miss out on other ways to make this holiday season your greenest yet.

The treecycle ornament is available on our Green Your Holidays channel through mid-January. While you’re making one for yourself, make one for a friend as well. It’s a nice gift, and it’s free.

If you’re still on the fence about purchasing a live or artificial tree, experts recommend going “au naturale.” Live Christmas trees create less waste in the long run than their artificial counterparts, and treecycling ensures your tree will be used for eco-friendly stuff, like:

  1. Chipping (used for mulch and hiking trails)
  2. Beachfront erosion prevention
  3. Lake and river shoreline stabilization
  4. Fish habitat
  5. River delta sedimentation management
