Little Mermaid Promotes Clean Oceans

The Little Mermaid is helping to keep our oceans clean. - The Ad Council

It was nearly 20 years ago that Disney glorified life “under the sea” through The Little Mermaid and her water-dwelling friends. Disney is now using the same characters in a national ad campaign to keep litter and other debris out of our oceans.

The Keep Oceans Clean campaign has partnered with the Ad Council to pass along the message through donated billboard space. One of the current high-profile placements is at Hollywood Boulevard in California, which should be on display through the beginning of 2009.

There are plans for 2,000 billboards throughout the country, which will continue to go up over the next few months.

Marine debris can include anything from plastic bags to cigarette butts, and doesn’t even include other items harmful to marine life like motor oil or paint dumped down stormdrains.
