Recycling Superhero Protects Facebook

Carbotron, the new recycling superhero.

Cartoon superheroes have been all the rage for the last decade with blockbuster movies and video games, and the recently released Carbotron has brought recycling into the superhero game.

Carbotron is a new application for Facebook created by California’s Department of Conservation. He was “sent back in time from a future we’d like to avoid, Carbotron’s mission is to lower greenhouse gas emissions and save the planet from environmental doom.”

He lets users determine the carbon footprint based on the amount of plastic, aluminum and glass they recycle each week. You can use this application to not only track your recycling habits, but challenge friends and “visualize the progress we’re collectively making toward a less carbonated future.”

Carbotron is the latest cartoon-driven campaign for recycling. Disney’s Wall-E was about a robot who collected and sorted recyclables.
