Great post Clara. I think the best way is to do solar panels yourself. You can really safe a lot of money. Many countries goes into nuclear power. That's crazy!! We have a source of free energy above our heads! Let's use it!!

Alternative forms of energy are the future of America where fossil-fuel's are like their dinosaur relatives old and out of date with the need of humanity.

I think the younger generation needs to push really hard ot our predecessor's to break the mold of depending on oil for our sources of automobile locomotion and other oil based products such as natural gas. If we can tap into thermal energy trapped under the surface of the planet and then pipe that heat into our homes along with using solar powered paneling to provide electrical power to our homes we can become an ecologically friendly world. Another form of self independance would be to use solar stills to generate water for each home as well as collecting and storing rain water throughout the year and during the winter time to use as a source of drinking and bathing water the world would have more time to pursue important goals rather than going to work just to pay the electric bill or water bill.

Really nice overview of the alternative energy options available. I think the key to considerable savings is to start with a home energy audit. The recommendations will make your home as energy efficient as possible and whatever alternative energy solution you choose will cost less.

If you are interested in learning how you can transition to solar energy or incorporate solar energy into your life, check out http://www.solar-energy-advantages-blog.com for a practical approach.

Well, it's all a mix of overall lowering the general amount of time you spend by your computer, television etc. But first and foremost I believe that the single most important thing, is to acchieve a system in which the amount of energy used is lowered by constantly trying to make the system of energy more complex and still more efficient. For example: Isolating your house properly will not only help in the fight against the environmental war - but also save you a lot of money in the long run.

Also reducing the amount of energy that computers and a like consume by having installed auto standby shut-off energy-cords.

I for one have focused my abilities in a field concerning the internet, and mainly concerning websites. One of the environmental projects I am currently involved in is called onlineleaf.com and is aiming to lower the amount of energy consumed by computer monitors by creating a web-browser standby monitor. Not only that but also hiding the graphical contents whenever the website you're on is not in use - doing all this without ruining the experience for the user is a challenge, but a challenge that is worth it's while when you look upon it with your environmental goggles.

Be sure to check it out, to see how you can easily make your website a lot more green!

Honestly, I think a healthy mix of everything mentioned is what's needed. Each technique brings benefits but does present its own challenges.
I do see people mixing up efficient energy generation and energy use; two very different things. For instance wind turbines just aren't feasible for most city dwellers, but they all should have switched to energy efficient led light bulbs a long time ago. Every little step counts, and switching to a better every day product serves as a great reminder for when you do make those big purchasing decisions.

Keep up the good work!

While it is much easier to make your home more energy efficient. It is also not too expensive to add a small solar panel to offset your total electrical costs. If you want to save even more you can build your own solar panel.

The average Texas homeowner actually uses an average of 1,800 kWh per month. Just thought I would throw that in. Nice blog.
