Program’s ‘Virtual Forest’ a Growing Success

Celestial Seasonings has announced that it will extend its Trees for the Future program through the end of April. The program began on Jan. 1 and was initially scheduled to run through March 31. However, the program’s overwhelming success resulted in the planting of one million trees and has prompted Celestial Seasonings to extend its partnership with the nonprofit organization, Trees for the Future.

Trees for the Future is a virtual forest that promotes environmental and economic stability in communities worldwide. So far, the organization has planted more than 70 million real trees across Asia, Africa and Latin America.

For every virtual tree planted through Celestial Seasonings’ site, the tea-maker will sponsor the planting of one real tree in a developing country. The process is simple: Fill out a registration form and learn about Celestial Seasonings’ sustainability efforts. There is no fee for planting a tree. The company just asks that you spread the word.

Trees for the Future is just one of the many eco-friendly moves that Celestial Seasonings is making. The tea company’s practices ethical trading, sustainable harvesting and minimized packaging. Its teabags do not have strings, tags, staples or overwrapping, diverting more than 3.5 million pounds of waste from landfills each year.

According to its site, Celestial Seasonings has worked with many of the same farmers for more than 30 years. The tea-maker also goes straight to the source, ensuring that its ingredients are Earth-friendly and humanly harvested.
