Recycling Orgs KAB and NRC To Form Partnership

The National Recycling Coalition (NRC) has ended weeks of speculation about its future with the announcement of a pending partnership with Keep America Beautiful (KAB) that will align two of the country’s leading waste management membership groups.

The two groups are still working on a partnership proposal, but once aligned, they will have membership in 32 states. They hope to work together to provide “more comprehensive, robust, and effective recycling programs” for members of both organizations.

Founded in 1973, the NRC provides resources for its members to promote the environmental and economic benefits of recycling. KAB formed in 1953 as a way to bring the public and private sectors together for a national cleanliness effort. Its annual Great America Cleanup campaign results in millions of pounds of material being recycled every year.

KAB already has a precedent for partnerships with the recycling industry. In 2008, it teamed up with the Curbside Value Partnership to offer recycling tools and resources to each of KABs members. One in three KAB affiliates also serve as a recycling coordinator for their community.
