Paint Manufacturer Achieves Green Seal Certification
The YOLO Colorhouse brand of latex paint achieved Green Seal-11 certification for its reduction of chemicals and volatile organic compounds (VOCs), making YOLO one of only eight paint and coating manufacturers to be recognized by the Green Seal program.

Yolo’s GS-11 certified paints include both interior and exterior lines, which the company manufactured without adding solvents. The paints do not contain VOCs, which contribute to indoor air pollution and can have a negative effect on human health.
“We’re proud to demonstrate that beautiful, durable finishes and clean air are not mutually exclusive,” says Virginia Young, co-founder of YOLO Colorhouse.
“There are more than 1,000 specified chemical compounds found in many paints that are now prohibited by the new GS-11 2008 certification. YOLO Colorhouse’s formula passed this stringent test verifying the purity of our formula.”
Green Seal has been certifying paint products since 1993. In addition to the paint’s ingredients, Green Seal rates manufacturers based on use of recycled content in packaging and identifying recycling options on the can. The organization also certifies household cleaners, soaps and paper products such as tissues and paper towels.
Disposal of latex paint is often tricky because many programs that accept household hazardous waste (HHW) only take oil paint. However, unlike oil-based paint, latex paint can be recycled into new paint products.
