I have been using corks under my potted plants. Using a very sharp knife, I slice a cork trying to get equal sized slices and use them in saucers under plants to hold the plant above the water that has drained out. Another use I am planning is to recycle 6"x6" tiles left over from a new floor in my bathroom as trivets by gluing cork slices on the underside of the tile. Thus far I haven't needed any new trivets, but it might make a nice housegift if you have some really pretty tiles.
