Sacramento Asks: ‘Got Your Bags?’
Non-profit, government and business groups of Sacramento kicked off the “Got Your Bags?” campaign on Sept. 18 in order to raise awareness about recycling plastic bags and using reusable bags.

California law requires all grocery stores and pharmacies of more than 10,000 square feet to provide bins for recycling plastic bags. Similar laws have been passed in Delaware and New York.
“Our goal with this campaign is to give consumers that extra reminder so they translate good intentions into action,” said Christine Flowers-Ewing, executive director of Keep California Beautiful.
“We all play an important role in increasing plastic bag recycling, stopping litter and helping to make California the most beautiful and cleanest state in the nation!”
The American Chemistry Council (ACC) and the Progressive Bag Affiliates are also participating. Also, the campaign has already spawned the support of local retailers. Fifteen Save Mart stores in the Greater Sacramento area gave away up to 15,000 reusable bags to their customers on Sept. 18.
According to the ACC, in 2007, more than 830 million pounds of plastic bags and film were recycled nationwide, up 27 percent from 2005. With an estimated 89 billion plastic bags, sacks and wraps used annually, recycling is an important step to reclaiming these valuable materials.

Glad to see that plastic bag recycling efforts are increasing and reusable bag promotion is in full effect. Although ‘got your bags’ could be a bit more impactful and creative, we here at Simply Green Solutions know its gonna take more than some ads and a tagline to get people in the habit of using reusable bags.
