Staples already offers many eco-friendly office-supply products: recycled-content paper, compostable plates and cups and non-toxic cleaning supplies, to name a few. But this week’s launch of its newest line of paper will be the first time the chain carries a paper product certified as sourced from sustainably managed forests.
Domtar EarthChoice Office Paper by Staples, is certified by both the Rainforest Alliance and the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). An FSC-certification verifies the paper’s sustainable production from the forest of origin through the supply chain. To receive a Rainforest Alliance seal, paper must also come from forestry companies with good labor practices and relations to the neighboring communities.
“We work hard to keep the forests as forests,” said Lewis Fix, vice president of Domtar, the paper manufacturer. “Third-party certification is the best way to ensure that sound forest management practices are implemented and that all environmental and social aspects of forest use are considered.”
The new line of paper will be available to business customers and customers of Staples’ website. The paper is designed for everyday printing on inkjet and laser printers and will feature HP’s ColorLok Technology to produce brighter colors and faster drying times.
