Best Reuse Projects For Old Board Games

Even though I am a smartphone user and an iPad owner, I am still partial to the old school board games.

But after several moves, packing and unpacking, some of those letter tiles and plastic Monopoly houses have gone missing. No sense in playing Scrabble without the Q tile, but I’m reluctant to toss the game. Instead, I found awesome projects from bloggers and crafters.

So, borrow some inspiration for your own project or toss in a couple of bucks to own a piece of homemade gaming flair.

    Hold on, a minute. Many of the items in this feature are cool, but aren't you forgetting the ORDER of "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle?" It's not in that order by accident- a smaller footprint results by doing it in order- reUSING Monopoly houses and place-holding pieces, Scrabble tiles, and such, by offering them in CraigsList's "Free" section, so that those who have lost a piece, is much better than making them into shabby-chic jewelry. Please, let's keep our eyes on the bigger picture.

    Fun article! I actually put magnets on the backs of my scrabble game (lost some of the peices). We put all the letters on the fridge. Now we always leave eachother messages!

    At www.plasticpollutioncoalition.org we add Refuse single use plastic even before Reduce. Recycling is the last priority on the list because it uses resources, may not be cost effective and may pollute. Recycling plastic is generally down-cycling and just one more step from the landfill. Consider the exit strategy with each purchase you make and you will buy less.

    Well if you do that you could get one or to people responding that could use the pieces but then you could also end up with a bunch of game pieces laying around not being used instead you can use them aot sooner by making something with them.

    I have found that old game boards make great lap “clipboards” the best is they store away easily.
    The other game board idea is to use it as a traveling flannel board, I glued a peice of flannel on one side of one color and a differant color on the other.. What preschool teacher wouldn’t love to own one of these flannel boards..
