Generally, in dorm life, if you bring a piece of storage equipment with you, even the most brazen of roommates won’t use it. All the more reason installing your own shelves is a good idea.
To keep your shelf from becoming yet another flat surface that collects junk, check out this fab and functional idea from Country Living.
Simply use some old pieces of wood to craft your shelf (think: your childhood dresser with two drawers missing from it).
Use a manual or electric saw to cut your shelf to the desired size, and paint it in the color of your choosing with nontoxic paint. Then attach some old jelly jars to keep smaller items from accumulating on your shelf top.
