Looking to get more involved in your green home décor?
Sustainable furniture designer Ryan Frank has created the A(dd)Y(our)O(wn) lighting range which gives everyone the chance to be not just a designer and manufacturer, but also a recycler.
The lights, made from rebar and natural rubber, are constructed without lampshades, so consumers can install their own, using a reclaimed object such as an old fruit crate, olive oil tin or pickle jar.
Calling his work “free-range furniture,” as his products are made from upcycled or eco-friendly materials, Frank has also designed biodegradable hangers made from recycled British newspapers and laptop covers and e-reader sleeves from cork.
Sustainability has been at the core of Frank’s design philosophy since he started his company in 2005. Rather than view environmental responsibility as an after-thought, the South Africa-born designer incorporates his green ethos throughout the entire production process, identifying the environmental impacts of sourcing materials, as well as determining how his products will be disposed of at the end of their useful lives.
Frank has studios in London and Barcelona, but his products are available at retailers in the U.S., United Kingdom, mainland Europe and Asia.
