A newly-formed California nonprofit is “turning trash into splash” at surf shops all over the state.
Through its Waste to Waves program, Sustainable Surf is transforming old foam waste – also known as polystyrene or #6 plastic – into eco-friendly surfboards that carry less than half the carbon footprint of standard boards, the nonprofit said.
Accepted foam waste is limited to packaging material and does not include food and beverage containers. To turn your old foam waste into a brand new surfboard, head to one of more than 10 drop-off locations across California or attend an upcoming Waste to Waves collection event.
