5. Antawn Jamison, Cleveland Cavaliers Forward
Antawn Jamison is known for racking up the points at Washington Wizards and Cleveland Cavaliers games. But off the court, the two-time NBA All-Star is a champion for Soles4Souls – a nonprofit that collects donated shoes from consumers and the warehouses of footwear companies and distributes them to people in need.
“I applaud Soles4Souls for being so dedicated to helping provide shoes to everyone they encounter who needs them,” Jamison said in a statement endorsing the organization. “They are making a difference in the word, one pair of shoes at a time!”
Last season, Jamison personally distributed 300 recycled shoes to residents at the Men’s Shelter of Charlotte. He has also spent more than $24,000 to purchase 2,250 new pairs of shoes for shelter residents since 2003.
The 6-foot-9-inch forward also started “Antawn’s Army,” a charity ticket program that provides free seats to youth and student organizations, and partners with national nonprofit KaBOOM! to promote play among children.
