All about Aries

Aries is a fire (or sun) sign on the Zodiac represented by a ram. It is the first sign of the new zodiacal year and is known as “the sign of beginnings,” according to the astrology experts at Dell Horoscope Magazine. Famous Aries include Jane Goodall, Maya Angelou and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

Make your traits green

1. Adventurousness

Aries signs tend to live adventurous and active lives, and what better way to do that than by embracing the great outdoors? Take a walk through a nearby botanical garden, go on a bike ride down an uncharted path or do a little birdwatching in a local park.

For a more thrilling outdoor experience, take a lesson in an activity you’ve never tried before – like rock climbing, surfing or kayaking. If you’re on a budget, check out sites like Living Social to get coupons and discounts for lessons near you.

No matter what the activity, spending time outdoors helps you remember why protecting our planet is so important, and you’ll save on energy, too! Think of it this way: Instead of setting the thermostat to the perfect temperature, switching on the lights and plopping down in front of the television, you’ll enjoy all the energy-free fun Mother Nature has to offer.

2. Generosity

Aries are known for being good friends and tend to look out for loved ones with compassion and generosity. Use your giving nature to help out the planet and your community by donating to a few eco causes this month.

A small donation of $50 or less could save an acre of rainforest through CREA, buy a flock of chicks for a hungry family through Heifer International or help rescue an endangered animal from extinction through the World Wildlife Fund.

If you want to give back but don’t have much wiggle room in your budget, head to one of the growing number of websites that allow you to contribute to multiple causes with a click a day. That means no cost, just clicks!

Harness the power of your Web-browsing finger to contribute to The Rainforest Site, The Animal Rescue Site, The Hunger Site and more. A simple Web search with the words “click to give” will yield dozens of causes you can contribute to for free.

3. Impulsivity

Most Aries are overflowing with energy – sometimes too much for their own good. Although vivacious Aries personalities are often the life of the party, they may find themselves abandoning partially-completed projects and moving on to the next because it is new and exciting.

While a slightly impulsive nature isn’t necessarily a bad thing, you may find yourself feeling bogged down by all the to-do list items you’ve pushed to the back burner. Fight back this month by taking care of a few things you have been putting off – like cleaning your garage, scheduling a home energy audit or fixing that leaky faucet.

And if you have a car, chances are you’ve been avoiding your regular maintenance check. While a trip to the mechanic isn’t anyone’s favorite way to spend an afternoon, caring for your car properly can have a big impact. Regularly changing the oil, spark plugs and filters in your car reduces emissions and increases the longevity of your engine, which shrinks the number of automobiles entering the waste stream before their time.

4. Courage

Aries personalities make great leaders and tend to be strong, courageous and passionate. The brave-hearted Aries faces adversity head-on, loves a challenge and never backs down from a good fight.

For this reason, you may find yourself staying strong in your eco convictions while some friends falter with frustration. Give your fellow greenies a helping hand by sharing some of the things that keep you passionate about the environment.
