Recycling plastic bottle caps and lids can be tricky; because plastic bottles and containers are made from a different type of plastic than the kind used to make their caps and lids, some cities cannot accept them in their curbside recycling programs. But over in Portugal, two young architects, Sandra Paulo and Bruno Barbosa, found a way to give these tiny pieces of plastic a second life as a stylish collection of handmade purses and bags.

This one-of-a-kind purse that looks like it’s ready to take flight is another one of HadeHaver’s larger shoulder bags, the Dona Maria Ana de Austria.
What does the future hold for the Portuguese company and its two architects?
Paulo and Barbosa have experimented with developing other products – including lamps – made from plastic lids and caps, but for the time being, have decided to focus their design efforts on their collection of bags.
