3. Dispose quickly

Ocean and beach litter is a serious environmental issue. While it’s tempting to think that trash ends up in our oceans due to apathy, a great deal of it is accidental. While you’re playing that game of beach volleyball, single-use items like food wrappers, paper plates and plastic bottles can blow away with ocean breeze before you get a chance to dispose of them properly.

If you bring a single-use product with you to the beach, dispose of it in the proper receptacle as soon as you are finished using it to avoid accidents. Can’t find the nearest recycling bin? Use Earth911′s iRecycle app (available for iPhone and Android) to find recycling bins while on the go.

If recycling at your local beach is limited, bring a reusable bag with you for recyclables (preferably with a tie or zippered closure) and recycle the contents when you get back to your hotel.
