One of our very own Earthlings tied the knot recently, and yours truly helped designed the celebration with sustainability in mind. Some things borrowed and some things glued: the décor for her low waste, low cost (and vegan) wedding day was prominently DIY, upcycled and reused. Check out this collection of my crafts, ideas and inspiration for a wedding that is just as easy on your wallet as it is on the environment.
Bridal Party Dresses
When it comes to fashion on your wedding day, reuse is always in style. The eco-chic way of saving the women in your bridal party money and closet space is to simply assign them a uniform hue for dresses that will mesh well with the wedding’s overall color scheme. This allows them to wear a dress that they already have or find a less expensive, second-hand one.
For this wedding, the bride advised her friends to wear cream colored dresses to match the natural and rustic theme of the wedding – some of which were found at a consignment shop.
For the men in the party, I suggest selecting vintage or locally made neck & bow ties to combine with fashion basics that they already own. We paired handmade ties in a vegan approved fabric (no silk or wool) from an artist on Etsy with matching shirts from local retailers to give the men a cohesive look.
As for the bridal gown, it is essential to pick out the perfect dress. Whether you go with new or used, you can always donate it to charity after your celebration is over.
