December typically means juggling a calendar full of festive get-togethers and gift exchanges with friends, family, and colleagues. Want to throw one together in a snap? ‘Tis the season to be crafty (and thrifty)! We rummaged through recycling bins, “shopped” the house and even journeyed outside to borrow, gather and create our way to a beautiful dinner tablescape that is fun, quirky and didn’t cost a dime.

Who needs a store-bought table runner when a beautiful scarf will do just as well?

We brought out a favorite green, gold and white scarf to serve as the backdrop for this particular tabletop. Solid scarves will do just as well, but the pattern here added another layer of visual interest.

Pro tip: A short string of LED holiday lights from elsewhere in the house adds a festive touch for the table. With the lights dimmed, the ambiance if even more festive.
