Tips on Properly Disposing Pool Chemicals
Pool chemicals are used to sanitize and balance water in swimming pools. Many are highly corrosive and reactive, so the best way to dispose of them is through household hazardous waste (HHW) programs or facilities.
If you are unable to send these agents to a disposal facility, check with neighbors to see if they can use the remaining chemicals for their pools. Some pool stores will take excess chemicals back. Got a local pool? It takes a lot to keep those huge pool systems going, so check with the city or owner to see if you can donate excess pool chemicals to them.
As a last resort, they can be disposed of in the trash. If you must throw them out, be sure that all tablets or granular products are dry, in original containers and double bagged to reduce the likelihood of contamination, corrosion and explosion.
