Eco-Camper

Fact

Camping is the perfect time to enjoy nature and get some exercise.  From Glacier Bay to the Everglades, opportunities abound for exciting adventures in the wilderness. Here are a few tips to maintain the integrity of your favorite spot:

Get Started

  • “Pack in, pack out” by making sure to bring out any waste that you bring in. Leave no trace behind, and recycle what you can when your trip is over.
  • If you’re going to purchase new equipment, look for sleeping bags, clothing and other products made from recycled materials.
  • Bring reusable dishes and silverware, rather than disposable items. They may not be recyclable and create unnecessary waste.

Become a Pro

  • Borrow camping equipment from friends and family. By trading and sharing, you reduce your group’s need for gear that you may not use on a regular basis.
  • Collect junk mail to fill a paper towel roll as a multi-reuse fire starter.
  • Invite novice campers and show them the eco-friendly way to enjoy the outdoors!

Everyone remenbers when they were a kid how fun camping is! With the Cubscout we do at least 3 Family Camping Trips a year. Leave no Trace is the One of the Main Theme’s we have to help and protect our outdoor surrounding and preserve it for future generations! Some stores will allow you to rent equiment if you do not have it but the basic are:
    1) Tent
    2) Sleeping Bag
    3) Change of Clothes at least 2 per day camping (2 separate night sleeping pjs for whole trip)
    4) Water…Water….Water…Pack at least 1 Gallon per day per person
    5) Fill the cooler with Food you can roast on campfire (if allowed) or make sandwiches
    6) Smores…Have to make them and tell at least one scary story! Melted Chocolate and Graham crackers with the melted marshmellows…Just completes the family camping experience!

Just get out there at least for the Day … Go for a Hike or Camp get out and enjoy the Outdoors while the parks and camp grounds are still open and not been taken over for Condos or strip malls!

I been camping my entire life! I’m so grateful to my parents for impressing on me at a young age the importance of being outdoors and the appreciation of our planet. Camping is a wonderful family experience and so much can be learned. As a family we have a rule that we always leave our campsite cleaner than when we arrived. Once we pack up all of our gear, we spread out & pick up all the little pieces of litter we can find.
